With the rise of cyber fraud in India, Reliance Jio has issued an important warning to its customers about potential scams. The telecom giant is cautioning users against fraudsters who pretend to be service provider representatives in order to steal sensitive information.

“At Jio, your security is our top priority. Recently, we’ve seen cases where scammers pose as service provider representatives to obtain sensitive information,” Reliance Jio stated, as reported by TOI.

Reliance Jio has also shared information on how these scams work and provided tips on how to stay safe.

**How Scammers Operate**

Scammers reach out to victims through various channels such as SMS, phone calls, emails, or WhatsApp messages. They attempt to gather sensitive information like Aadhaar details, PAN numbers, bank account information, OTPs, credit card details, or SIM numbers. Often, they create a sense of urgency or use intimidation, claiming that services will be cut off if the victim doesn’t comply.

Scammers may also ask you to install and download third-party apps, which can give them access to your computer or phone and personal information.

Importantly, Reliance Jio has clarified that it never asks customers to install third-party apps. If you receive such a request, it’s a scam.

“Any communication from Jio via SMS, call, or email will never ask you to click on unknown links that lead outside Jio.com or the MyJio app. If you’re unsure, we recommend logging into the MyJio app to find the relevant information,” the company stated.

**How to Protect Yourself from Online Fraud**

– **Avoid Suspicious Links:** Do not click on suspicious links or respond to unsolicited emails, calls, or messages asking for personal information.

– **Be Wary of Remote Access Apps:** Scammers may use apps that grant remote access to your device to steal personal information. Avoid downloading such apps.

– **Protect Your SIM Number:** Do not share the 20-digit SIM number with others. This number is printed on the back of your SIM card.

– **Monitor Your Accounts:** Regularly check your card and bank statements for any unusual activity. If you notice any suspicious transactions, report them to your bank immediately.

– **Use Strong Passwords:** Create unique PINs and passwords for your online accounts and apps, and update them regularly to keep your information secure.

– **Keep Your Software Updated:** Regularly update your device software and avoid sharing your device with others to safeguard against unauthorized access.
